Fuseproject Collaborates with Functionland to Design a First-of-Its-Kind Decentralized Cloud Storage Alternative

FxBlox is an innovative product introducing a groundbreaking alternative to big tech’s subscription-based data storage.

San Francisco, January 30, 2024 – fuseproject, Yves Béhar’s multidisciplinary design firm and startup Functionland are proud to debut FxBlox, a physical hardware device that allows users to store fully encrypted data, files, and photos tapping into secure, user-owned, decentralized storage.

FxBlox represents the first step toward Functionland’s mission of ending the “rental web” with a user-owned, decentralized cloud alternative. It allows users to own their server, plugging into a network that doesn't rely on big tech’s cloud services—or charge subscription fees. Combined with Functionland’s open source data protocol, the Fula Network, FxBlox devices in a local area connect and form a mesh network allowing individuals to backup each other's data while keeping it encrypted, ensuring it remains safe and can only be deciphered by the original owner.

“Functionland is disrupting the cloud storage paradigm with an innovative solution that brings the security of blockchain and the simplicity of SaaS into every household. It’s cooler than the cloud, and this emotion is captured in the FxBlox design — a refined hardworking device that tech-savvy users will be proud to have on display in their home.”
          – Yves Béhar, Fuseproject Founder and CEO

Functionland partnered with fuseproject to develop FxBlox’s look and user experience from the ground up. Fuseproject designed a highly customizable, modular product – users can add storage by connecting expansion cards, adding new storage towers, or plugging in external devices.

Premium materials such as an anodized metal satin bead blast finish on the monochrome towers convey precision and quality while tower caps in assorted colors add personality and visual richness that’s unexpected in a functional tech object.

The powerful geometry projects confidence and stability while variations in the CMF of individual towers help to break it up and soften the overall look, making it less rigid and more dynamic and relatable. Natural, pared-down colors and textured materials give the product depth and complexity while also allowing it to fit in any home environment.

“We’re proud to work with Fuseproject’s design team on FxBlox’s core product offerings. We want the FxBlox to be more than just a block of high-performing hardware. We want it to be an element of home design that anyone would be proud to place on their office desk or see every day in their home,”
          – Keyvan M. Sadeghi, Founder and CEO, Functionland

About Functionland

Founded in 2021 by Keyvan M. Sadeghi and Ehsan Shariati, Functionland’s mission is to bring autonomous data ownership to the masses through Cloud 2.0. The paradigm shift of a "cloud made of individuals” disrupts the centralized infrastructure by moving the servers to homes, eliminating the need for advertising and subscription business models that are detrimental to user's overall online experience. Funtionland’s first-of-its-kind product, FxBlox, keeps the signature capabilities of the traditional cloud, backup, sharing and real-time collaboration while eliminating the downsides of those services such as monthly subscription fees and targeted ads. In doing so, Functionland elevates the end user to do more than simply access their data bringing new features, full control over data, faster retrieval speeds, and the possibility of new business models. Learn more about Functionland at fx.land.
